As the iPad has grown in popularity, many companys have started seeing device as a tool for just about anything. None more so then those in the media industry. There are a mess of drawing apps out there and other apps for video editing. But what has been missing are apps that alow you create 3D models like Zbrush and Maya. Originaly that was due to the lack of power the first iPads had at the time. But now that has changed.
The first app for modelers I whanted to take about is called uMake and it just went up on Thursday.
uMake is a modeling app that you don't create models like in Maya or Zbrush, but you draw your model out first. By drawing on the x, y, z axis you create the outlines for your model, much like when you drawing the uv maps on a 2d image for a character. After you are done drawing your model, you then use the tools it gives you and create the model you what.

This is an extremley power full system, doing what would take hour and turning it into minutes. The program is only 86.1 MB so you don't need to worry about space. Plus it is free-ish. This app has two in app purchases to pick from that are renewing fees to unlock the full app.
When you just download the app, you can only make up to ten designs, export only as PNG, edit your curves, and use symmetry. So that means you can export your model. However by paying the $20 monthly or $200 yearly fees you are able to have unlimited designs, export your model as OBJ & IGES, use the advanced editing tools, duplicate you designs, and the most inportant part; add up to three photos as image references. And if you go with yearly, you get the first 30 days free.
While this is a great app and i understand their fee plan. I feel that the only thing you should pay for is just exporting you model. The other features should be free, that way you can get the full-ish expernce and determine if you want to pay the subscription fee if you want to export your model.
